What A Difference A Day Makes

You’ve probably seen the pictures of former Chicago Cub Sammy Sosa appearing at a Las Vegas event recently having a dramatically different skin tone. This much lighter version of Sosa had some speculating that he may have vitiligo or that steroid use is the cause of his new hue. According to a purported friend of Sosa’s, and Cub’s employee Rebecca Polihronis, Sosa was just as surprised he came out as bright as he did due to his new “cleansing” regimen.

“He is going through a rejuvenation process for his skin, he was surprised he came out looking so white.”

So, does this “rejuvenation process” involve contacts and a relaxer? Whatever, Mr. Sosa.

All jokes aside this is an issue. If the rumors are untrue and he doesn’t have a skin condition, then his way of thinking is just sad. What was he being told and shown as he grew up in The Dominican Republic that made him think his darker features were unacceptable? Black, brown, white, yellow, red, purple – they’re all beautiful! Just accept it and own it! LINK via Dlisted

Jack Black Should Play Magic Devlin

Posted in Entertainment, Movies, Videos, WTF?! with tags , , , , , , , on November 2, 2009 by TheDiversePurse

Peep the video above for the wonder that is Magic Devlin! I was watching this thinking to myself “Is this guy for real?” I’m still not sure, but he’s entertaining and funny regardless.

From his synthesized music to his ill fitting spandex outfit and his habit of rockin’ out while doing magic tricks, I totally thought this would be an awesome character for Jack Black to play. I’d go see that movie.

Woman Becomes Pregnant While Already With Child

Posted in Fitness & Health, News, WTF?! with tags , , , , , , , , on September 24, 2009 by TheDiversePurse

GrovenburgultrasoundArkansas couple Todd and Julie Grovenburg were shocked when they visited the doctor for a routine ultrasound only to find out she was pregnant again. But these aren’t twins. In this rare case, doctors believe Julie conceived a second child, a son whom they’ll call Hudson, two and a half weeks after she was already pregnant with their daughter whom they’ll name Jilian.

Dr. Karen Boyle, who spoke with ABC News, stated the babies will possibly have seperate due dates.

“The interesting thing in this case is if these children were actually born on their due dates, the older child would be born at the end of 2009, and the younger child would be born in the beginning of 2010.” Link via Yahoo

30 Dumb Inventions

Posted in Videos, WTF?! with tags , , , , , , , , on September 23, 2009 by TheDiversePurse

babycageNo, I’m not talking about the atrocious Snuggie or the culturally ignorant Hawaii Chair; that would be too contemporary although befitting nonetheless. I’m referring to Life Magazine’s ranking of the worst inventions taken from 1940’s through the 1960’s.

Take the Baby Cage, shown above, from 1937:
“A nanny supervising a baby suspended in a wire cage attached to the outside of a high tenement block window. The cages were distributed to members of the Chelsea Baby Club in London who have no gardens, or qualms about putting a child in a box dangling over a busy street.” Link via Digg

Flashback Friday! (Moments In Love-Art Of Noise)

Posted in Entertainment, Flashback Fridays!, Music, Videos, WTF?! with tags , , , , , , , , , , on September 18, 2009 by TheDiversePurse

I freakin’ found it! I couldn’t remember the name of this song of the group for the life of me. I didn’t have much to go on besides a haunting beat and a music video involving ice skating, masks, and an eerie undertone. Well, after much searching the mystery is solved. It was Moments in Love by the Art of Noise from 1983.

Doesn’t it seem like the 80’s were full of music videos and movies involving European aristocrat balls and the 16th / 17th centuries all together?

7 Inappropriate Children’s Toys

The gift-giving holidays will be here sooner than you know it so be sure to steer clear of some of the TOYS ON THIS LIST.

The top two creepiest, to me, out of the bunch would have to be the You Can Shave The Baby doll and the Pole Dancer. In regards to the hairy baby – what the hell is that?! Besides, maybe, individuals suffering from hypertrichosis I think it unncessary to shave a baby let alone encourage other babies to think it’s ok to take a sharp object and shave another one.

As for the latter toy, what parent in their right mind would buy this for their daughter? It might be different if this was renaissance themed and the doll was dancing around the maypole, but she’s not and that toy is not cute at all. (via Huffington Post)
