Have you ever listened to sad music while in a foul mood yourself? A lot of do this for various reasons. In a recent interview with Reuters Jemaine Clement, one half of the popular musical/comedy duo from New Zealand, hinted that there may not be a season three of their HBO show “Flight of the Conchords”. It is partly due to how much work is involved creating skits and unique songs for the series.

“It very likely might not…(return) it could come back in a shorter season or like a special.”

Clement also stated that he would need to discuss the future of the Emmy nominated show with fellow musician/actor Bret McKenzie. LINK! via Spasifik

Flashback Friday! (Take That To The Bank-Shalamar)

Shalamar has always been a favorite of mine so of course I had to watch TV One’s Unsung series featuring the group. Jody Watley looked as gorgeous as ever not looking a day over 36 and I loved Jeffrey Danel’s international accent.

After watching it, I had their 70’s hit “Take That To The Bank” stuck in my head all day!

Here they are, with original members, Jody Watley, Jeffrey Daniel, and Gerald Brown performing on Soul Train. How could you not dance to this?

Celebrity Doppelgaengers – Nicole Scherzinger And Rhian Benson

RhianBensonNicoleScherzingerDoesn’t the Welsh/Ghanaian singer Rhian Benson bear a resemblance to fellow songstress mixed-Hawaiian Nicole Scherzinger?

In some shots from Rhian’s video “Say How I Feel”, I swear they could be sisters.

Madonna Hearts Glee

Posted in Entertainment, Music, Television, Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on October 23, 2009 by TheDiversePurse

MadonnaGleeEither that or she’s a savvy businesswoman and getting in on the Glee bandwagon while it’s hot. Turns out Madonna has granted the hit show rights to her entire song catalog.

Creator of Glee, Ryan Murphy, hinted at an all Madonna episode in the works for next year.

As a fan of the corny, yet cute, show myself here’s a list of the songs that I think would fit with some of the characters and their storylines thus far:

“Like A Virgin” – Quinn Fabrey – This would be only fitting for her to sing as this snooty, cheerleader who’s President of the Abstinence Club discovers she’s pregnant herself.

“Secret” – Finn Hudson – As Quinn’s boyfriend and assumed baby’s daddy, Finn is still in the dark about the actual sperm donor.

“Express Yourself” – Mercedes Jones – This song has Mercedes written all over it; sassy, bold, and unapologetic.

“What It Feels Like For A Girl” – Sue Sylvester – I know Coach Sue isn’t really a part of the Glee Club, but maybe she could sing in some sort of fantasy sequence. I think underneath that cold, mean, seemingly asexual exterior is a misunderstood kitten.

“Vogue” – Artie Abrams – He’s awesome at doing the same dance routines as the other members while in his wheelchair. It would be cute to see them stay still and let Artie do his thing.

“Human Nature” – Kurt Hummel – With his friends and father supportive of him since confirming that he’s gay, this should be a perfect song for the now unstoppable, more confident Kurt.

“Sorry” – Rachel Berry – Miss Overachiever caught in a love triangle with Quinn and Finn is probably practicing her routine for this song right now.

“Angel” – Emma Pillsbury – This uptight, germaphobe could be shown singing this while lighting candles at her Will Schuester alter (you know she has one). LINK!

Flashback Friday! (Moments In Love-Art Of Noise)

Posted in Entertainment, Flashback Fridays!, Music, Videos, WTF?! with tags , , , , , , , , , , on September 18, 2009 by TheDiversePurse

I freakin’ found it! I couldn’t remember the name of this song of the group for the life of me. I didn’t have much to go on besides a haunting beat and a music video involving ice skating, masks, and an eerie undertone. Well, after much searching the mystery is solved. It was Moments in Love by the Art of Noise from 1983.

Doesn’t it seem like the 80’s were full of music videos and movies involving European aristocrat balls and the 16th / 17th centuries all together?

Flashback Friday! (Slick Rick-Teenage Love)

Posted in Entertainment, Flashback Fridays!, Music, Videos with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on September 11, 2009 by TheDiversePurse

Vodpod videos no longer available.

When asked about hip-hop ballads, most people will automatically think of the LL Cool J classic I Need Love off of his Bigger and Deffer album. Who didn’t love that song when it came out?

But right up there, I would have to say, is the overlooked Teenage Love by Slick Rick from 1988’s The Great Adventures of Slick. The beat was sick and his lyrics were on point. I love the part where he sings, “Do you know where you’re going to…” sampled from Mahogany. Who did that?! I think he was one of the firsts (if not the first) to mimic someone elses lyrics and singing style and not just sample their beat.

Anyway, the video is full of 80’s goodness like big-ass-Goldie-lookin’ fur coats, even bigger gold chains, and even a cameo by Big Daddy Kane.
