Gallery Of Crossdressing Politicians

The Daily Beast has compiled a gallery of politicians who at one point or another have crossdressed whether as a life choice or for fun. This comes on the heels of former mayor of Cleveland Eric Brewer losing re-election after pictures of him dressed in lingerie were leaked to the local media.

One prominent politician TDB omitted was New Zealand Member of Parliment Georgina Beyer. Although not a crossdresser, but a transsexual, I would think she’d make the list as her identity didn’t deter her gaining office unlike many in the gallery. Link!

LGBT Group To Compete On America’s Best Dance Crew 4

I’m a little late on this one, but when I saw the audition for the LGBT group Vogue Evolution I had to stop and look at the fabooshness that was happening. And who did I see but one of my favorite ballroom divas Miss Leyomi Mizrahi?

Not only will they be the first openly gay dance troupe competing on MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew, Leyomi will be the first trans-person as well on the show.

From their MySpace page:
“Vogue Evolution has since moved beyond just a dance company to become an envoy that stands committed to effectively changing the lives of the LGBT community through the art of dance. Vogue Evolution works to empower Black and Latino gay youth around self-value, while educating the community on HIV/AIDS awareness, and encouraging the importance of getting tested now. Vogue Evolution takes responsibility for the cultural evolution in and out of the “ballroom scene” creating powerful results in the world.”

I will be glued to my set when season 4 starts next month. Hopefully, the voting public won’t be ignorant and keep them around if they indeed do a fabulous job.

Indigenous Transvestites Celebrated in Mexico

In the small town of Juchitan men who dress as women, called “muxes” pronounced “moo-shes”, don their finest dresses and hair accessories to celebrate the harvest in southern Mexico. The fiesta has been held annually for the last 33 years, but gender-bending has its roots in this culture for centuries.

“‘Native people in the Americas with ambiguous gender were often regarded as wise and talented, said Rosemary Joyce, a professor of anthropology at the University of California at Berkeley.

‘They were seen as have having a kind of spiritual power that comes from being more like the ancestors who are mothers and fathers at once, and more like the divinities who may be dual gendered,’ Joyce said.” Link! (via Reuters)

Huffington Post writer Carol Anne Burger murdered her wife Jessica Kalish, who was dating another woman, by stabbing her with a screwdriver 222 times. Even after trying to scatter evidence, she was the number one suspect due to the personal nature and ferocity of the attack. But, before police could question her she shot herself in the backyard of the house she shared with Jessica. Now police and friends are left with only questions. A close friend of Burger’s, Helen Gale, is still in shock. “My gut tells me that it’s impossible and that something else is going on. This is just beyond belief.” Link!

Flashback Friday

Even after 14 years, Janet Jackson’s video for “If” is still hot! I love the androgyny of the females-dressed-as-males characters and for portraying Asian men as being sexy and sexual because that’s rarely portrayed in the mainstream. The color scheme, setting, dancing, actors, and duh Janet exude heat. Why aren’t newer videos as creative? *sigh*

Former Mr. Gay UK turned chef Anthony Morley was sentenced to a minimum of 30 years in prison for the murder of lover Damian Oldfield who, evidence shows, Morley then cut pieces of flesh from, cooked in oil and herbs, and proceeded to eat.

Morley stated he was defending himself from an attempted rape by Oldfield, but could not explain the cannibalism.

As Morley hung his head in court, Judge James Stewart QC commented how this was one of the most gruesome cases he’s presided over. Not only did you murder your victim by cutting his throat and stabbing him but you cut him up, cooked him and ate part of him. Before this case I had associated cannibalism with eras long gone, with the tale of Robinson Crusoe. No longer. You have plumbed depths rarely encountered in our court.” Link! (via The BBC)
