In a recent interview with Reuters Jemaine Clement, one half of the popular musical/comedy duo from New Zealand, hinted that there may not be a season three of their HBO show “Flight of the Conchords”. It is partly due to how much work is involved creating skits and unique songs for the series.

“It very likely might not…(return) it could come back in a shorter season or like a special.”

Clement also stated that he would need to discuss the future of the Emmy nominated show with fellow musician/actor Bret McKenzie. LINK! via Spasifik

LeVar Burton And His Living Hell With Reading Rainbow

Posted in Entertainment, Television with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on September 24, 2009 by TheDiversePurse

LeVarBurtonI’d thought I had a childhood-bubble-popping-clutch-the-pearls moment when I clicked on a link from actor LeVar Burton’s Twitter page where he writes a confessional article. In it, he states how much he hated the beloved children’s show, that ran for 26 years, Reading Rainbow.

“Hoping to escape Reading Rainbow’s clutches, I started taking any role I could get. I’m proud of some of them: I played Geordi La Forge on Star Trek: The Next Generation and Martin Luther King in Ali. But you know what the most challenging role of my career was? Hosting Reading Rainbow and acting like I gave a shit about getting kids interested in books.

Fact is, I couldn’t care less whether kids learn to read. There, I said it.”

As a kid who grew up loving this show since, pretty much, its inception way back in 1983 my mouth was agape at reading on his reflections. My reaction was, almost, akin to when I saw Wayne Brady doing that now infamous Dave Chappelle skit. Mr. Burton seems like such a nice guy, who was one of the few POC role models back in the day, and here he was, basically, saying, “F*** those kids!”

But, I laughed my butt off and re-read his article after realizing that it wasn’t to be taken seriously. You see, unbeknownst to my dingy self I neglected to see who he’d written the article for – The Onion.

Thanks for the belly laughs, LeVar Burton. Now I can go back to reading Abiyoyo. Link!

UPDATE! It turns out LeVar Burton didn’t write The Onion article after all. From his Twitter: “Attention all un-believers THE ONION is satirical parody of news events and meant to be enjoyed as such! No I did not write it! Relax, OK?”

Celebrity Doppelgaengers – Orly Taitz And The Chicken Lady

Posted in Celebrity Doppelgaengers, Entertainment, News, Television, Videos with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on August 4, 2009 by TheDiversePurse

orlytaitzchickenladyI’ve been seeing this Orly (yes, really) “Birther Movement Leader” Taitz lately on many news shows touting her claim President Obama isn’t a U.S. citizen and she reminded me so much of someone yet I couldn’t quite put my finger on it. That is until I recently saw her being interviewed by David Shuster and Tamron Hall on MSNBC.

Throughout her stammer filled viewpoints and fluctuating octaves it finally hit me – The Chicken Lady from Canadians The Kids in the Hall! I use to love that show. Mark McKinney as the masturbation loving Chicken Lady, who explodes feathers everywhere at her peak, is a classic. Can’t you see, and hear, the similarities as well?

As I watched The Soup, hosted by the hilarious Joel McHale, I nearly fell on the floor dying of laughter when I watched this clip below! Being “The Love Doctor”, I can’t believe Dr. Terri Orbuch didn’t realize the double meaning of what she said about Barack and Michelle. But I’m glad she didn’t because this was just too funny!

Our First Hawaiian President

Yeah, this is pretty old, but I found it funny none-the-less. Stephen Colbert laments to fellow commentator John Stewart and to the audience on how The United States is long overdue for having a “Hawaiian” president.

Little Britain U.S.A. Preview!

I absolutely love British humor, whether it was Are You Being Served? to Absolutely Fabulous and anyone else who’s a Brit-o-phile is familiar with the hilarious, and sometimes controversial, Little Britain. They’re a hit in the U.K. and now HBO is bringing the comedic duo of David Walliams and Matt Lucas to America. The same characters will remain, they’ll just put their spin on American culture. I can’t wait for it to premiere in a couple of weeks, but until then, here’s a clip from their upcoming show:
