1880's Maori Woman

The bones of twelve Maori people, one reportedly a female, are finally traveling back to New Zealand after being held in boxes at the National Museum and Gallery of Wales at Cardiff since the 1920’s.

The return of the bones stems from New Zealand’s government mandated Karanga Aotearoa program which negotiates recovery of ancient bones on behalf of the Maori.

The Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa’s manager, Te Herekiekie Herewini, and co-ordinator Hema Temara held a short spiritual ceremony at the Cardiff museum so as to show respect for the remains. Herewini believes the return of ancient bones to their homeland is of utmost importance:

“This is significant for Maori as it is believed that through the ancestors’ return to their homeland, the dead and their living descendants will retrieve their dignity, and also close the hurt and misdeeds of the past.” LINK!

Hines Ward Helps Bi-Racial Youths Deal With Discrimination In South Korea

Posted in International, News, Videos with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , on November 9, 2009 by TheDiversePurse

HinesWardPittsburgh Steeler, and 2006 MVP, Hines Ward recently hosted a group of eight bi-racial Korean youths to discuss their stories of discrimination, taunts, and banishment they’ve received in South Korea. One teenager even re-told his attempt at suicide as an escape from the harsh treatment he’s received as an Amerasian. Sadly, according to statistics, children of mixed unions often end up in poverty and are prone to suicide due to how they are treated in Korean society.

Ward, who himself is Korean on his mother’s side and African-American on his father’s side, hopes to change the children’s perspectives as well as the people of Korea. To do this, he established the Hines Ward Helping Hands Foundation; which fights to end racism against biracial Koreans.

“It’s a great culture. I love everything about it. But there’s a dark side to that culture. And me, I’m just trying to shed a light on that dark side and make Korea a better place than it already is.”

Wow. Sexy, athletic, and compassionate. He’s a triple threat! LINK

Woman Becomes Pregnant While Already With Child

Posted in Fitness & Health, News, WTF?! with tags , , , , , , , , on September 24, 2009 by TheDiversePurse

GrovenburgultrasoundArkansas couple Todd and Julie Grovenburg were shocked when they visited the doctor for a routine ultrasound only to find out she was pregnant again. But these aren’t twins. In this rare case, doctors believe Julie conceived a second child, a son whom they’ll call Hudson, two and a half weeks after she was already pregnant with their daughter whom they’ll name Jilian.

Dr. Karen Boyle, who spoke with ABC News, stated the babies will possibly have seperate due dates.

“The interesting thing in this case is if these children were actually born on their due dates, the older child would be born at the end of 2009, and the younger child would be born in the beginning of 2010.” Link via Yahoo

Another Child Found To Cry Tears Of Blood

Posted in Fitness & Health, International, News, WTF?! with tags , , , , , , , , , on September 11, 2009 by TheDiversePurse

georgebuchanantwinkleI posted earlier about U.S. teenager Calvino Inman and the mystery involving random tears of blood flowing from his eyes. Doctors and his mother are baffled. But, halfway across the world, a little girl in India is experiencing the same situation.

National Geographic filmed a young girl by the name of Twinkle, who bleeds from her eyes, head, palms, and other random spots, as she was tested by an American doctor to find the cause of so-called stigmata.

The news special doesn’t air until September 13th, but according to the National Geographic website Dr. George Buchanan has already made his conclusion after visiting Twinkle.

“The pattern and nature of her bleeding really fits with no known bleeding disorder.  Although I am always willing to give patients and their families the benefit of the doubt (and maybe indeed Twinkle’s has something totally unique, previously undiscovered and inconsistent with known medical science), I think that her bleeding is brought on in some way purposefully (motive unknown) by Twinkle and/or her mother.  To confirm with this, we need to observe a bleeding event right from the start.  The best way to do this would likely be prolonged direct observation 24 hours daily in a controlled medical setting.”

Medical Mystery! Teenager Spontaneously Cries Tears Of Blood

Posted in Fitness & Health, News, Videos, WTF?! with tags , , , , , , , on September 3, 2009 by TheDiversePurse

CalvinoInmanFifteen year old Calvino Inman, of Tennessee, has the stresses of a typical teenager – maintaining good grades, a social life, awkwardness but he also has something much more serious occurring. Doctors are baffled to his condition because Inman cries real tears of blood. His mother, and the medical community are at a loss as to what could be causing this. He says it happens about three times a day; lasting from 15 minutes to an hour.

Calvino’s mother, Tammy Mynatt, told CNN’s reporter: “More than anything I just truly want somebody to say ‘I’ve seen this. I can help this family'”.

Celebrity Doppelgaengers – Orly Taitz And The Chicken Lady

Posted in Celebrity Doppelgaengers, Entertainment, News, Television, Videos with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on August 4, 2009 by TheDiversePurse

orlytaitzchickenladyI’ve been seeing this Orly (yes, really) “Birther Movement Leader” Taitz lately on many news shows touting her claim President Obama isn’t a U.S. citizen and she reminded me so much of someone yet I couldn’t quite put my finger on it. That is until I recently saw her being interviewed by David Shuster and Tamron Hall on MSNBC.

Throughout her stammer filled viewpoints and fluctuating octaves it finally hit me – The Chicken Lady from Canadians The Kids in the Hall! I use to love that show. Mark McKinney as the masturbation loving Chicken Lady, who explodes feathers everywhere at her peak, is a classic. Can’t you see, and hear, the similarities as well?

Gone Too Soon

Gone Too Soon

In memory of the late-great legend that was Michael Jackson here are two clips only highlighting the surface that was his long, extensive, and inspirational career.

First is Michael, with the also legendary Diana Ross, lending his vocal as well as his acting talent in 1978’s The Wiz singing Ease On Down The Road. He played The Scarecrow with an innocence and sweet nature where, I think, the gave an audience a peek on the performer himself.

The second video, below, shows Michael with his brothers The Jacksons in the special effects laden Can You Feel It from 1980. This was after the success of his Off the Wall album, but before 1982’s Thriller which would catapult him to superstardom.

Having died unexpectedly and at a young age, it was a shock to me as well as many throughout the world who was touched by his music and spectacular performances. These videos are just two of the many songs that I’ve loved throughout the years whether I heard it on viynl, cassette tapes, the radio, cd’s, or my mp3 player. He will be deeply missed, but his music will live on as they no doubt will keep inspiring older fans as well as the millions of new ones yet to hear his albums.
