Photographer Mark Menjivar allows us to take a glimpse into typical American refrigerators and, in turn, take a look into their own personal lives.

You Are What You Eat is a series of portraits made by examining the interiors of refrigerators in homes across the Untied States.

For three years I traveled around the country exploring the issue of hunger. The more time I spent speaking and listening to individual stories, the more I began to think about the foods we consume and the effects they have on us as individuals and communities. An intense curiosity and questions about stewardship led me to begin to make these unconventional portraits.”

The subjects come from all walks of life and a lot of the times that is reflected in their palates and the contents of their fridge. Some photos display bountiful meats and vegetables belonging to successful business owners while others show sparse interiors belonging to the struggling, or working poor, of society.

I think the photographer draws on something that people don’t think too much about, yet is very intimate. It almost feels voyeuristic like looking into someone’s bathroom cabinet (Ooh, that could be your next photo series Mr. Menjivar).

Trippy Applications For Your Drug And Alcoholic Haze

For those special times in one’s life where you’re bored and would like to enhance the effects of a bout with excessive consumption of the legal and illegal variety, there’s this pretty awesome site that gather’s a collection of somewhat simple, yet mind bending, flash games and applications from the web that are weird and entertaining – even on a sober day.

My favorite of the apps is from Zoomquilt. It’s somewhat hard to describe, but basically, you move your mouse up and down to move in and out of the picture. As you move in, you go into various artistic scenes, like the one pictured above, full of truly trippy detail.

Flashback Friday! (Rush, Rush-Paula Abdul)

abdulreevesrushLet’s go back to the early 90’s to a pre-American Idol Paula Abdul where she tried her acting chops in this long ass melodramatic video with Keanu Reeves for “Rush Rush” from her Spellbound album.

I’m guessing this is set in the 1940’s / 1950’s, yet Keanu always brings out that damn surfer/stoner boy accent which I’m sure didn’t exist yet. He was still hot though.

It’s kinda cute watching them romance each other because Paula looks like his little sister. She’s so tiny! Both of their performances should’ve garnered Academy Awards though *cough*

Troy Polamalu Graces Madden 2010

polamalumadden10We’re not even close to it being football season, but for sports fans that season comes a few months early courtesy of John Madden and his line of successful video games base on the NFL. The new edition “Madden 10” is stated to be released in early August.

There was a lot of buzz as to who would be on the coveted cover of the ageing player, coach, and commentator’s new installment of the Madden series. In the past John Madden himself was the coverboy from 1990 – 2001. In 2001, EA Sports decided to put other football players on the cover starting a tradition that has gained popularity for the game and for the player featured.

Madden's First Cover In 1990

This time around EA Sports has decided to try something different yet again and have, for the first time, two players on the cover – Pittsburgh Steeler Troy Polamalu and Arizona Cardinal Larry Fitzgerald. Not only are there two people for the first time, but it should also be noted that Polamalu is the first Polynesian to grace the cover! Look at us comin’ up 😉

Check out some behind the scenes footage of them shooting the cover below.

Silence Of The Lambs: The Musical

tedlevineIf someone says, “Put the fucking lotion in the basket” everyone knows it’s a famous line uttered by Buffalo Bill (played by Ted Levine who’s distinct voice still gives me a creepy shiver) in The Silence of the Lambs. The quote, along with Bill’s tuck scene, has been parodied countless times. (FAMILY GUY and CLERKS 2 are two that immediately come to mind.) Now TV and film composers Jon & Al Kaplan have taken that famous line and turned it into a song in the internet musical “Silence!”

With songs like, “If I Could Smell Her Cunt” and “Are You About A Size 14?”, I wouldn’t be surprised if this was picked up and turned into an actual on-stage production a la Jerry Springer: The Opera. I’d go and see it!

Fan Gets Tattoo Of Brittanya

brittanyatatBrittanya from Rock of Love Bus and, currently, Charm School 3 is my girl crush of the moment but someone took it to the next level and got a tattoo of her on them. First the Meagan tat and now this? I saw it posted on the message board for Charm School and if it wasn’t entitled “Brittanya Super Fan Tattoo” I wouldn’t have guessed it was her because it doesn’t look like Brittanya. The giveaways are how the eye makeup is done and the matching tattoo on the left arm.

I agree she’s HELLA hot, but a permanent tattoo of a reality show personality? SMH.

Cat Dances To Billie Jean

neaveThis isn’t only cute, but the special effects are well done too. I saw this on named after visual artist Paul Neave. He made an interactive-like television for your screen that shows totally random, weird, and trippy clips.

I love how the cat shrugs its shoulders (well sort of) and is like, “Sigh. You want me to do the dance again? Alright. Damn.”

dylanlongbottomThe BBC has had a long tradition of shooting beautiful nature documentaries set in seemingly alien worlds, but in reality surround us humans everyday.

Following in the footsteps of their award winning series The Blue Planet and Planet Earth, comes a new program entitled “South Pacific”.

Premiering May 10, 2009 on BBC2, this new series takes a look at the very unique creatures and landscapes that inhabit this most isolated of regions.

Below is a clip of surfer Dylan Longbottom inside a 12 foot wave off the Caroline Islands filmed in super-slo-mo. Apparantly the first time it’s been done.
